Intro

Assessing the Outdoor Potential

Jamie and Priya came to us with a clear desire to make the most of their underutilized backyard. They envisioned a green retreat that could serve both as a private sanctuary and a place to host friends and family. We began by assessing the sun exposure, existing soil conditions, and overall layout. Our design needed to be both beautiful and sustainable, with a strong focus on low-maintenance and native plant choices. These early conversations helped us shape a clear and grounded design strategy.

Challenges

Designing with Nature

We selected a mix of native grasses, flowering perennials, and evergreen shrubs that would offer texture and interest across seasons. The planting plan was structured in layers to create depth and a natural feel. A central stone path connected different zones—a dining patio, a small fire pit area, and a quiet reading nook beneath a tree canopy. Materials like reclaimed wood and gravel kept the look grounded and eco-friendly. Lighting was added discreetly to extend the space’s usability into the evenings, enhancing both atmosphere and safety.

Outcome

A Living Extension of the Home

The finished garden feels like a true extension of Jamie and Priya’s living space. Each zone flows naturally into the next, offering versatility for both everyday relaxation and gatherings. The plantings attract birds and pollinators, bringing life and movement into the space. Every choice—down to the shape of the seating stones—was made with intention and care. The result is a garden that not only meets the couple’s needs but will continue to evolve beautifully over time.
